A event planner who has a lot of money to spend may be able to hire the Rolling Stones to play his event. He should not count on this happening. Most bands for hire do not put out albums. They are often local bands or bands just starting out. They may be waiting to be discovered or they may have given up on making the big time. The person who hires a given band does not care about it either way. He simply wants a reasonably priced band that can provide entertainment for his particular event.

The planner should not hesitate to ask for a demonstration of the band’s abilities. He cannot expect the precision of the London Symphony Orchestra or the quality of the Beatles, but he can get a good band. If he gets a good band, he knows that he has got his money’s worth. If he gets a mediocre band, the quality of the party will determine whether or not the band was worth it. The guests will ultimately decide whether the band that played at the planner’s event was worth the time and effort. If the guests leave the party happy, the planner knows that the band was worth the cost.
